Film Based on Sul Ross Alum Mike Flynt’s Story Set for Nationwide Release

The inspirational sports drama The Senior, based on the life of former Sul Ross State University student Mike Flynt, is set for a nationwide theatrical release on March 7, 2025. Starring Emmy Award-winning actor Michael Chiklis, the film tells the remarkable true story of Flynt’s journey of redemption and perseverance.

Flynt’s story begins 37 years ago when he was dismissed from his collegiate football team after an altercation. At age 59, carrying the burden of that decision, he discovers he still has a year of eligibility left. Returning to college, Flynt not only earns his degree but also tries out for the football team, facing the challenges of reconnecting with his younger teammates while confronting generational trauma, masculinity, and strained family relationships.

The film, directed by Rod Lurie (The Contender), also features performances by Mary Stuart Masterson, Brandon Flynn, James Badge Dale, and Rob Corddry. Premiering at the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival, The Senior is being released by Allen Media Group’s Freestyle Releasing, with production by Wayfarer Studios, Select Films, and Ten Acre Films.
