The Big Bend Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas is currently fundraising for a new pollinator garden at the Alpine Public Library, dedicated to the memory of Patricia Rose Manning, a revered field botanist and local plant conservation advocate.
Patty Manning, affectionately known throughout the community and among her peers as Patty, had a significant impact on the propagation and distribution of native plant species across the Big Bend region. Her lasting legacy includes co-founding Twin Sisters Natives in Alpine, a nursery devoted to cultivating native plants.
The planned pollinator garden aims not only to serve as a tribute to Manning’s lifelong dedication but also to function as an educational resource and aesthetically pleasing landscape for the Alpine community. Additionally, it will provide a vital food source for native pollinators, supporting local biodiversity.
