The Big Bend Conservation Alliance (BBCA) is excited to announce a new initiative in collaboration with artist Dana Falconberry to benefit The Big Bend River Rangers, a program dedicated to engaging and educating local youth on the stewardship of the Rio Grande.
The River Rangers program involves students, teachers, and their families in activities that promote the protection, connection, and reclamation of the Rio Grande. Participants get hands-on experience in exploring the watershed, monitoring the river’s health, and learning from elders who are committed to nurturing a new generation of environmental caretakers.
In support of this initiative, Dana Falconberry has created a unique bandana titled “The River is Home.” The design features the Rio Grande and its surrounding canyons, showcases the river’s various names in Lipan Apache, Spanish, and English, and depicts the local flora and fauna. For each bandana sold, an additional one will be gifted to a River Ranger, enhancing the engagement and educational experience of the participants.
This campaign is further supported by the Permian Basin Area Foundation, which is currently matching donations to maximize the impact on youth stewardship efforts. The campaign kicked off on December 2 and will run through the end of the year, offering a meaningful way for the community and supporters to contribute to the conservation of one of Texas’s most iconic natural resources.
