Sul Ross State University is currently seeking a qualified Budget Analyst for its Alpine campus, located within the scenic Davis Mountains of West Texas. This key position in the Executive Director for Finance Department is tasked with supporting the budgeting process and ensuring financial compliance across university operations.
Qualifications: Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in business or a related field, backed by five years of experience in budgeting, reporting, accounting, or a related field. Two years of supervisory experience are also required for this role. A Master’s Degree in business or related field with experience in higher education is preferred.
Responsibilities: The Budget Analyst will be integral in collaborating with the administration, departments, and an outsourcing vendor to manage the annual budget process and monitor fiscal activities throughout the year. This role involves:
- Working closely with other Business Services Analysts to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with financial policies.
- Assisting departments in managing their individual budgets using budget spreadsheets and Banner screens, including providing training.
- Supporting the budget process through activities like position control, general reporting, reconciling, and journal entries.
- Developing and reconciling the annual salary, benefit, and operating budgets, and maintaining budget changes during the fiscal year.
- Participating in the preparation of actual expense versus budget variance reports.
- Collaborating with outsourced vendors on the implementation and maintenance of budgeting modules in Banner, including Salary Planner and Finance Banner.
Skills: Candidates should demonstrate strong leadership and problem-solving abilities, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and excellent communication skills both in writing and orally. Familiarity with Ellucian Banner products is a plus.
Compensation: The salary for this position is set at $53,968 annually. The role offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance options available after a 60-day waiting period as required by Texas Law.
Work Environment: This full-time position operates under standard office conditions and is exempt from overtime provisions. The role is considered security sensitive, requiring a high level of confidentiality and attention to detail.
