Sul Ross State University is currently looking for a highly skilled Part-Time Programmer Analyst III to join its Education Department at the Alpine campus. This vital staff position is designed to support both administrative and academic functions through advanced data management and system analysis.
Qualifications and Experience: The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited institution, backed by at least ten years of relevant experience in the field. A Master’s degree with coursework in data handling and statistical methods is preferred. Additionally, candidates should have a strong background in managing information technology help desks, with expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Job Responsibilities: The Programmer Analyst III will be responsible for providing complex skilled analysis of information and assessment system requirements. This includes developing or modifying information and assessment system designs, testing and debugging existing programs, and producing documentation for internal and external users.
The role involves coding, documenting, testing, and debugging programs to build robust assessment tools tailored to the department’s requirements. The successful candidate will also act as a liaison between IT staff and software vendors, lead team projects, handle user-specific help requests, and support the certification officers and college administrators with data needs. Moreover, this position requires creating and maintaining Blackboard assignments linked to student learning and licensure initiatives.
Compensation: The salary for this position is hourly and commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience level.
Security and Working Conditions: This position is classified as security-sensitive and requires a high level of confidentiality and accuracy due to the potential impact of errors. Standard office conditions apply, and the position may require occasional evening or weekend work for university events.
