Presidio Pre-Kindergarteners Explore Local Community Helpers, From Ranchers to Policemen

Presidio ISD’s youngest learners embarked on an educational journey this week to explore the roles of various community helpers in their town. The pre-kindergarten classes participated in a series of visits aimed at providing them with a deeper understanding of what builds a community and the essential services that support it.

On Monday, October 14, the students visited the PISD Administration Building where they learned about the superintendent’s and school board members’ roles in decision-making. This visit provided them with insights into the administrative processes that guide their education and the functioning of their schools.

The educational journey continued on Tuesday, October 15, when the children headed to the Presidio Stockyards. There, local rancher Mr. Sanchez offered the students a firsthand look at the day-to-day responsibilities of a rancher. This visit aimed to connect the students with the agricultural roots of Presidio and the importance of livestock and farming to their community.

The last stop for the day was an exciting visit to the Presidio Police Department. Here, the students learned about vital safety procedures, including when to call 911. They also discussed the consequences of making good and bad choices, a lesson integral to their development and understanding of law and order. Highlighting the visit, the students were ‘deputized’ for an hour, a playful yet educational role-play that allowed them to feel like part of the police force.

These visits are part of Presidio ISD’s commitment to a comprehensive educational approach, ensuring that students not only learn within classroom walls but also gain practical knowledge and respect for the various roles that contribute to community welfare.
