Earlier this month, Alpine ISD’s successful partnerships with Texas philanthropies were highlighted during a Funder Session at the West Texas Rural Philanthropy Days, hosted at Sul Ross State University.
Alpine ISD Superintendent Dr. Michelle Rinehart, Mrs. Jennifer Steadman from the Permian Basin Area Foundation, and Mrs. Kelly Garlock from the Prentice & Alline Brown Foundation presented on the funding partnerships that have bolstered rural education and shared lessons learned from their collaborative projects over the past year and a half.
Dr. Rinehart detailed several key initiatives funded by these partnerships, including:
- Library renovations at Alpine Elementary School
- School supplies for all Alpine ISD students for the 2023-24 school year
- New laptops for every teacher in the district
- Support for the Alpine Child Development Center
- Seventeen projects planned for the 2024-25 school year, including school supplies, new playgrounds, Promethean Boards, and retrofitted marquees
Dr. Rinehart also addressed the chronic state underfunding of Alpine ISD and provided insights for funders working with rural grant recipients.
The session underscored the importance of philanthropic support in building capacity in rural education and highlighted the collaborative efforts of Alpine ISD, the Permian Basin Area Foundation, and the Prentice & Alline Brown Foundation.
The event was made possible by Texas Rural Funders, who invited Alpine ISD to share their experiences and achievements. Special thanks were extended to Texas Rural Funders, the Permian Basin Area Foundation, and the Brown Foundation for their ongoing support and commitment to enhancing education in Alpine.
