Former Mexican Police Officer Pleads Guilty in Presidio Meth Seizure

A former Mexican police officer has pleaded guilty to federal charges after attempting to transport over 60 pounds of methamphetamines through the Presidio Port of Entry. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas announced the guilty plea on Tuesday.

Cesar Alonzo Lopez Ruiz, 34, of Rosales, Mexico, was charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Court documents reveal that Lopez Ruiz attempted to cross into the U.S. at the Presidio Port of Entry, which connects Presidio, Texas, and Ojinaga, Chihuahua. A search of his vehicle uncovered 50 packages of methamphetamine concealed inside the gas tank, weighing a total of 27.8 kilograms, or about 61.3 pounds.

Lopez Ruiz, formerly a police officer in Mexico, now faces a potential sentence of 10 years to life in prison, with sentencing scheduled for Aug. 26.
