Sul Ross State University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Milton Crotts as the new associate professor of music and director of bands at the Alpine campus starting next fall.
Dr. Crotts, originally from North Carolina, brings a robust educational background and a rich teaching history to Sul Ross. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, followed by a doctorate in Musical Arts in instrumental conducting from the University of South Carolina at Columbia. His previous positions include roles at the University of Guam, Davidson College, Warren Wilson College, and UNC Asheville.
“I look forward to working and living in one of the loveliest regions in our country, developing a strong band program at SRSU, and playing a part in shaping students’ futures in and out of class,” Dr. Crotts expressed.
Dr. Crotts has led a variety of ensembles including concert bands, game day bands, wind ensembles, jazz ensembles, and orchestras. His teaching repertoire spans a wide range of music courses, from Music Theory to Applied Instrumental Music, and Band Methods covering woodwinds, brass, and percussion.
With a unique blend of classical training and influences from the traditional music of southern Appalachia, Dr. Crotts’ approach to music education and ensemble direction emphasizes creativity and community engagement. He is noted for his innovative program designs that not only challenge musicians but also captivate audiences.
