The Visitor Services Associate is pivotal in maintaining the museum’s reputation for exceptional visitor service and security. Responsibilities include acting as a docent, managing the front desk and exhibition spaces, ensuring the safety of the art and visitors, and providing thorough introductions to the Chinati Foundation’s mission and history. The role demands excellent customer service skills, a passion for art and architecture, and the ability to communicate effectively in English. Fluency in Spanish and other languages, along with prior customer service experience, particularly in the art world, is highly desirable.

Key responsibilities for the position include:

  • Offering outstanding service to visitors of all backgrounds.
  • Ensuring the security and safety of the artworks and visitors.
  • Familiarity with the museum’s collections, layout, and emergency procedures.
  • Handling check-ins, information requests, and online booking assistance.
  • Maintaining the Chinati Bookstore/Visitor Center’s merchandising standards and operating the Point of Sale system.
  • Supporting the Visitor Services team by promptly responding to requests and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of Chinati’s offerings.

Candidates should possess enthusiasm for engaging with the public, excellent verbal communication skills, and the ability to multitask in an active environment. The position requires reliable transportation, the ability to lift up to 30 lbs., and comfort with standing for extended periods. The Foundation places a high value on team members who can maintain a calm demeanor and prioritize duties effectively.

This role is based in the unique setting of Marfa, Texas, a town renowned for its vibrant art scene and located in the high Chihuahuan desert. The position starts at $13 per hour during training, with a subsequent increase to $15 per hour upon completion.
