In a move to bolster its finance team, the Chinati Foundation, a beacon of contemporary art preservation and presentation, is actively seeking a seasoned bookkeeper. Positioned at the heart of the foundation’s financial operations, this full-time role is aimed at enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of Chinati’s finance department, underscoring the organization’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and operational excellence.

The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of three years of full-charge bookkeeping experience, with a strong preference for individuals who possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field. Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, is essential for daily responsibilities, which include maintaining general ledger accounts, recording financial transactions, and assisting in the preparation of monthly reports for various stakeholders.

Located on the historic grounds of the former US Army base Fort D.A. Russell in Marfa, Texas, the Chinati Foundation is renowned for its dedication to the ideas of its founder, Donald Judd. The museum presents large-scale installations by a select group of artists to the public, alongside a range of activities including public tours, conservation efforts, education programs, and artists’ residencies.

The bookkeeping position extends beyond traditional finance functions, involving tax reporting duties such as managing documentation for new and foreign vendors and assisting in the preparation of 1099 reports. Additionally, the role demands a high level of integrity and attention to detail, with the successful candidate expected to contribute to the readiness of the finance team for the yearly financial audit among other tasks.

Offering a salary range of $38,000 to $40,000, dependent on experience, Chinati provides a generous benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, paid time off, and an employer-sponsored 403(b) retirement plan. This position requires a commitment of 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend, holiday, and evening hours as necessary.

Qualified applicants are encouraged to email a cover letter, resume, and three references to jobs@chinati.org, highlighting their suitability for this pivotal role within the finance team. The Chinati Foundation is an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive team that reflects the community it serves.

As Chinati continues to advance its mission through exhibitions, lectures, performances, and publications, the addition of a skilled bookkeeper will ensure the foundation remains on solid financial ground, enabling it to uphold and expand its unique cultural legacy.
