Homecoming Weekend 2023 in Fort Davis: A Blend of Tradition, Sports, and History

The Audrey & Tyrone Kelly Pavilion sets the stage for a weekend filled with festivities, celebrating the Homecoming Weekend 2023. From historical tours to football games, there’s something for everyone, and the entire community is invited to partake in these special events.

The Homecoming Weekend, which commences today, is generously sponsored by businesses including Porter’s Grocery Stores, Fort Davis Inn & RV Park, Fort Davis Cow Camp, Cibolo Creek Ranch, “Shakers No Secret” Partnership, and the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce.

Thursday, October 26: Starting at 6 p.m., residents and visitors can enjoy a vibrant Homecoming Parade downtown. Following the parade, an energetic Pep Rally will gear up attendees for the weekend’s sports activities, capped off with a bonfire at the County Park.

Friday, October 27: At 7:30 p.m., football enthusiasts can cheer for their favorite teams as the Fort Davis Indians face off against the Marfa Shorthorns. Later in the evening, the community is invited to the Homecoming Dance at the Kelly Pavilion from 9 p.m. to midnight. The best part? Entry is free, and attendees of all ages are welcome.

Saturday, October 28: The day begins at 9 a.m. with a Chuckwagon Breakfast followed by a historical tour and parade at 10 a.m. This unique event, open to everyone, whether on horseback, wagon, bicycle, on foot, or even accompanied by leashed dogs, will provide insights into the Overland Trail and the historic buildings lining the route. The guided tour, complete with a microphone and speaker, will commence at the courthouse, making its way through iconic spots, and concluding at the Overland Trail Museum.

Later in the afternoon, at 3 p.m., attendees can experience Goat Roping at Kelly Pavilion. This is followed by a Family Barn Dance at 5 p.m., promising an evening of food, drinks, and live music. Performers for the night include Roger Moon & The Moonshiners, The Doodlin’ Hogwallops, Doug Moreland, and a special tribute to George Strait.

Tuesday, October 31: The community can celebrate All Saints Trick or Treat at the Methodist Church starting at 6 p.m. The day concludes with Movies on the Lawn at the Courthouse at 7:30 p.m.
