A relentless battle against the Red Barn 7 Fire has paid off, with the blaze now 100% contained after consuming an estimated 490 acres. Firefighters and emergency personnel have worked around the clock to control the fire that ignited on Saturday, August 5th, due to a lightning strike.
The joint efforts of Fort Davis Volunteer Fire Department, Davis Mountain Resort Volunteer Fire Department, and additional support from the Texas Forest Service have proven to be a formidable force against the wildfire. Crews from Ft. Stockton, including a ten-person hand crew, an engine, a safety officer, a medical team, and a type 3 Incident Commander, have been instrumental in containment efforts.
Despite the intensity and the dense fuel in the hill’s lower regions, which led to significant smoke plumes, no structures were ever under threat. The firefighting teams will continue to monitor and patrol the area to ensure that there are no flare-ups or resurgence of the fire.
“We are grateful for the coordinated efforts of all involved, which have led to significant progress in containing the Red Barn 7 Fire,” stated Erin O’Connor, Program Specialist IV at the Forest Resource Protection, Texas A&M Forest Service. “Our crews have not found any heat today, but we will remain vigilant.”
