Audit says sheriff’s truck purchasing violation did not recur

Jeff Davis County’s latest audit says auditors did not observe a repeat of a prior purchasing violation involving a $70,375 truck for the sheriff’s office.

The annual report, released in September, revisits a fiscal 2024 finding concerning the purchase of a 2023 Dodge Ram 3500.

According to that finding, the vehicle exceeded the $50,000 competitive purchasing threshold applicable to the transaction but was not put out for bid or bought through a previously bid contract.

Auditors said the officials involved had misinterpreted purchasing requirements and believed obtaining quotes was sufficient.

They recommended informing all officials with purchasing authority about competitive purchasing requirements and planning large purchases in advance.

The fiscal 2025 report says the condition was not observed again during the current year’s audit.

It does not describe a new truck purchasing violation or establish that the original transaction was retroactively corrected.
