The Big Bend Open Road Race will bring four days of racing activities, car shows and community events to Sanderson and Fort Stockton Oct. 14-17, with racing scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17. Texas HWY 285
Activities begin Wednesday in Sanderson with registration, technical inspections, rookie instruction and qualifying and practice sessions on U.S. 90 west of town. A welcome party is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Ferguson Motors.
Thursday’s schedule includes additional registration, inspections and practice, along with navigator and rookie schools. The Sanderson car show begins at 11 a.m., followed by a racer social mixer at 6:30 p.m. at Joe’s Place in Fort Stockton.
Events shift to Fort Stockton on Friday, with registration and technical inspections from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Large Community Hall. Navigator and co-driver instruction begins at 2 p.m., followed by a driver and co-driver meeting at 3 p.m. A car show is scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m. at Rooney Park, with a parade beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Saturday’s race preparations begin at 5 a.m. at Rooney Park. The first leg starts at 8 a.m. on U.S. 285 from Fort Stockton to Sanderson. The return leg is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
A banquet and awards ceremony will conclude the event at 7:30 p.m. at the Pecos County Civic Center.
