The seventh annual John Prine Night will return to Marathon on Oct. 10, bringing musicians and fans together to celebrate the life and music of the late singer-songwriter.
The free event will be held at The French Co. Grocer, 111 U.S. 90. This year’s gathering falls on Prine’s birthday and carries the theme “Blue Umbrella,” a reference to his song of the same name.
John Prine Night has been held each October since 2020 on the weekend closest to Prine’s birthday. The event is hosted by French Co. Grocer owner Sam Stavinoha and organized by M. Walker.
Musicians who want to perform can sign up, with performance slots available on a first-come, first-served basis. No admission ticket is required.
Organizers said food vendors will be on site, along with a full bar. Attendees are asked not to bring their own alcohol and are encouraged to bring chairs because seating is limited.
Prine, whose songwriting blended folk, country and Americana with humor and observations about everyday life, died in 2020 at age 73. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020.
The poster for this year’s Marathon event was created by M. Walker and Amanda Miller.
