The bar at the Hotel Paisano will reopen in October, giving locals and visitors access to the historic hotel’s courtyard and fireplace lounge while renovations continue elsewhere on the property.
Hotel Paisano co-owner Lauren King told Big Bend Reporter that the bar will begin serving guests again next month.
“The bar will be open in October to serve guests in the courtyard and fireplace lounge,” King said.
For now, the space will simply be referred to as the Hotel Paisano Bar or the bar at Hotel Paisano. The owners plan to wait until the larger renovation is complete before unveiling the property’s new concepts.
“We plan to reveal everything at once in spring but want to open the courtyard up to the public and to locals in the fall and winter so there is a nice place for the community to gather while we carry on with construction,” King said.
The hotel’s gift shop will also remain open continuously, as it has throughout the summer.
The October reopening will mark an early step in bringing portions of the Hotel Paisano back into operation as its new ownership group moves forward with an extensive renovation of the landmark Marfa property.
The owners initially planned to renovate portions of the hotel while continuing to accommodate overnight guests but later decided to close the rooms and move the renovation forward.
A new restaurant concept is planned as part of the project and is expected to open in conjunction with the renovated guest rooms in spring 2027.
Until then, reopening the bar will return activity to two of the Paisano’s signature gathering spaces months before overnight lodging resumes.
The Hotel Paisano opened in 1930 and was designed by El Paso architect Henry C. Trost. The hotel became closely associated with the 1956 film “Giant” after members of the cast and crew stayed there while the movie was filmed in the Marfa area.
