The Terrell County Commissioners Court is scheduled to consider a proposed lease involving county airport property during a meeting Monday morning in Sanderson.
Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, in the Commissioners Courtroom at the Terrell County Courthouse, 105 E. Hackberry St.
Agenda Item 6 calls for commissioners to “discuss and take action, if desired,” on a lease agreement allowing Fisher Industries to use airport property owned by Terrell County.
Residents opposing border wall construction say they have learned the property would likely be used as a worker camp and staging area. They are urging members of the public to attend the meeting and requesting that county officials release the proposed agreement.
Fisher Industries was awarded a federal contract valued at approximately $1.2 billion for border barrier construction, including work planned in Terrell County.
Critics say the agreement has not been made available to Terrell County residents and property owners despite requests for its release. They argue that the proposal could have significant implications for border construction and its effects across the Big Bend region.
The Commissioners Court could discuss the lease and take action during Monday’s meeting. Members of the public may submit comments using the county’s public participation form.
