The Marfa Mimeograph launches new print publication focused on local life

A new print publication has joined Marfa’s media landscape, promising a decidedly local mix of community news, announcements, events, editorials and classified advertising.

The Marfa Mimeograph published its first issue in August, describing itself as “The Paper of Off the Record” and positioning the publication as a community-focused alternative at a time of change in the print media industry.

“While the rest of the print world gets itself sorted, the Mimeograph will happily step up and share the most basic and fantastical information about Marfa and her inhabitants,” the publication said in announcing its debut.

The Mimeograph is published by Mary Etherington, with design and layout by Simone Rubi. Copies are printed locally by Boxes Marfa and distributed around town.

Its stated coverage includes classified advertisements, personals, lost-and-found notices, births, deaths, events, editorials and other information submitted by residents.

The publication is printed biweekly on 11-by-17-inch paper and is also seeking local advertisers. Published rates range from $40 per issue for a 2-by-2-inch advertisement to $500 for a full-page advertisement. Discounts are offered for advertisers purchasing space in two consecutive issues. Classified advertisements are priced at 75 cents per word with a $15 minimum.

The publication also offers advertising design services for an additional fee, ranging from $35 for smaller advertisements to $250 for a full-page design.

The Mimeograph’s arrival adds another locally produced publication to Marfa, a small Far West Texas community with an unusually active arts, cultural and media scene.
