Marfa Independent School District is accepting applications for a band and music director to lead an effort to rebuild the district’s music program and revive a longstanding Shorthorn tradition.
The district announced the opening Friday on its Marfa Shorthorns Facebook page, promoting the position with the message, “Come to Marfa. Build the sound. Lead the comeback.”
Marfa ISD said it is seeking a “passionate, energetic educator” to guide what it describes as the next chapter of the “Blazin’ Horns of the Big Bend.”
“This is an opportunity to create something special — inspiring students, developing their musical talents, reviving a proud tradition, and filling our schools and community with Shorthorn sound and spirit,” the district said in its recruitment announcement.
The posting emphasizes rebuilding the program rather than simply maintaining an existing one, using the slogan, “Small Town. Big Vision. A Band Ready to Rise.”
