Big Bend Regional Medical Center has named longtime Sul Ross State University facilities administrator Jessie Lara as its new director of facilities.
Lara joins the hospital after a 27-year career as executive director of facilities at Sul Ross State University, where he oversaw a broad range of campus operations, including utilities, building maintenance, custodial services, grounds, facilities planning and construction, central receiving and the university’s motor pool.
He brings experience in facilities operations, capital planning, project management and business leadership, according to the medical center.
During his tenure at Sul Ross, Lara led complex capital projects, managed budgets and funding sources and coordinated with architects, engineers, contractors and vendors. He also worked with university leadership on strategic planning and campus development.
Among the projects Lara helped oversee were the expansion of the Museum of the Big Bend, an Americans with Disabilities Act project and multiple campus master planning and infrastructure projects.
Lara holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Sul Ross State University.
“We are very excited to welcome Jessie to this new role and look forward to the experience, leadership and vision Jessie will bring to our organization,” Big Bend Regional Medical Center said in announcing the appointment.
Outside of work, Lara enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, riding his motorcycle and being outdoors.
