The Family Crisis Center of the Big Bend will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 21 for its new Little Pantry, an outdoor community resource designed to provide food to people experiencing hunger or food insecurity.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at the center, 402 E. Gallego Ave. in Alpine.
Operating under the principle “Take what you need. Give what you can,” the Little Pantry will allow community members to pick up food when they need it and donate items when they are able.
The project is being highlighted during Hunger Awareness Month in September and is intended to provide an easily accessible source of food for individuals and families who may need additional support.
“No one should have to choose between putting food on the table and meeting other basic needs,” the organization said in announcing the project.
The ribbon-cutting event will include community pantry stocking, an opportunity for community members to connect and light refreshments.
The Family Crisis Center of the Big Bend serves communities across the Big Bend region and provides services and resources aimed at supporting individuals and families in need.
Organizers are encouraging residents to attend the opening and help stock the pantry as it begins serving the Alpine community.
“Together, we can help fight hunger,” the organization said.
