The Big Bend Bluegrass Festival will return to Alpine this fall for its fifth anniversary, bringing two days of live bluegrass music to the Alpine Civic Center.
The annual festival is scheduled for Oct. 2-3 and will feature a lineup that includes Special Consensus, the Edgar Loudermilk Band, Catahoula Drive, the Finley River Boys, Righteous Intonation and the Edwards Brothers, with additional performers expected.
The event is organized by the Big Bend Bluegrass Association and has grown into an annual gathering for bluegrass musicians and fans in Far West Texas.
Special Consensus, founded in the Chicago area in 1975, is among the festival’s featured acts. The long-running bluegrass group has earned multiple International Bluegrass Music Association awards and Grammy nominations during its five-decade history.
The Edgar Loudermilk Band is led by Georgia musician Edgar Loudermilk, a singer, songwriter and bassist who has performed with several prominent bluegrass groups during his career.
This year’s festival is supported by a number of regional organizations and businesses, including the Permian Basin Area Foundation, West Texas National Bank, WesTex Community Credit Union, Big Bend Saddlery, Visit Big Bend, Visit Alpine and the Texas Music Office.
Organizers are also promoting discounted lodging options for festival visitors.
The fifth annual Big Bend Bluegrass Festival begins Friday, Oct. 2, and continues Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Alpine Civic Center in Alpine. More information, including lodging information and festival details, is available through the Big Bend Bluegrass Association.
