Alpine Independent School District board member Dr. Adrian Billings has been selected to participate in the Texas Association of School Boards’ Leadership TASB Class of 2027, the district announced Wednesday.
Leadership TASB is a yearlong training program for Texas public school board trustees focused on governance, education policy and leadership. More than 1,000 trustees have completed the program since it was established in 1990.
“We are so proud to see Dr. Billings selected for this prestigious opportunity,” Alpine ISD Superintendent Dr. Michelle Rinehart said in a statement. “Dr. Billings brings a deep commitment to public education, thoughtful leadership, and a genuine desire to serve the students and families of Alpine ISD.”
Rinehart said Billings will have an opportunity to learn alongside trustees from across Texas while also sharing perspectives on the challenges and strengths of public education in rural West Texas.
Participants are selected based on demonstrated leadership in their school districts and communities. The program brings together trustees representing districts of varying sizes and student populations across the state.
Tiffany Dunne-Oldfield, acting executive director of the Texas Association of School Boards, said the program is designed to challenge and inspire school board leaders while expanding their knowledge of governance, education policy and leadership.
The Class of 2027 program is scheduled to begin Oct. 7-9 in Houston during txEDCON, a statewide gathering of public school leaders hosted by the Texas Association of School Administrators and TASB.
Participants will visit school districts around Texas during the year, with stops planned in Houston, Abilene, Austin and Corpus Christi. The program is scheduled to conclude in June 2027 at the Summer Leadership Institute in Grapevine.
Trustees who successfully complete the program earn the Master Trustee designation.
