The Monahans Chamber of Commerce has opened registration for the fourth annual Christmas in the Dunes Lighted Christmas Parade, set for Dec. 4.
The parade will begin at 6 p.m. with this year’s theme, “Christmas Through the Years.” Families, businesses, churches, schools and community organizations are invited to decorate floats and vehicles and participate in the holiday tradition.
Organizers are encouraging participants to interpret the theme through different eras and styles, including Victorian Christmas scenes, 1950s decorations, colorful 1960s and 1970s displays, neon-inspired 1980s and 1990s themes and classic Christmas toys from different generations.
Other suggested themes include “Christmas in America,” marking the nation’s 250th anniversary with red, white and blue decorations, and a West Texas Christmas featuring decorated trucks, tractors, cowboys and country-inspired holiday displays.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place entries.
The parade will follow a new route this year, beginning near the Million Barrel Museum, traveling north to Sealy Avenue, east to Parkway Boulevard and then south to the Ward County Event Center.
Organizers said candy and other objects may not be thrown from parade entries. Participants also are asked not to dress as Santa Claus because the parade’s official Santa will appear on a sleigh.
The Chamber is encouraging prospective participants to begin planning their entries and sign up for the Dec. 4 event.
