A U.S. Border Patrol K-9 team helped agents seize more than 35 pounds of cocaine at the Sierra Blanca checkpoint, according to the agency’s Big Bend Sector.
Border Patrol said the seizure totaled 35.516 pounds of cocaine, with an estimated value of more than $1.13 million.
The agency credited a specially trained K-9 team assigned to the Sierra Blanca Station with helping detect the narcotics. Border Patrol highlighted the seizure in a social media post, saying its canine teams play an important role in detecting illegal drugs moving through checkpoints.
Sierra Blanca is in Hudspeth County along Interstate 10, about 85 miles southeast of El Paso. The checkpoint is operated by U.S. Border Patrol’s Big Bend Sector.
Border Patrol did not provide additional details in the post about when the seizure occurred, how the cocaine was concealed or whether anyone was arrested or charged in connection with the seizure.
