Sunshine House names Sylvana Diaz as executive director

Sunshine House Inc., the nonprofit that operates Alpine’s senior center and Meals on Wheels program, has named Sylvana Diaz as its new executive director.

The organization announced the appointment this week, describing Diaz as a community leader with experience in nonprofit finance, operations, human resources and strategic financial management.

Diaz earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Texas A&M International University and has worked in nonprofit leadership, according to Sunshine House.

Originally from Laredo, Diaz has lived in Alpine for more than a decade. She and her husband are raising their three children in the Big Bend region.

In announcing the appointment, Sunshine House said Diaz is committed to strengthening the region by helping ensure residents have access to the support and opportunities they need to thrive.

“Deeply rooted in West Texas, Sylvana is committed to helping ensure the region remains a place where neighbors care for one another and members have access to support and opportunities they need to thrive,” the organization said in a social media announcement.

Sunshine House, located at 402 E. Holland Ave. in Alpine, serves older adults through its senior center and provides Meals on Wheels services to residents across the area. The nonprofit said Diaz’s leadership will help guide its mission of serving seniors and strengthening the Big Bend community.
