Six people were detained Tuesday during a joint law enforcement operation involving raids at two homes in Aldama, according to preliminary reports.
Agents with the Chihuahua State Investigation Agency and personnel from Mexico’s National Defense Secretariat carried out the operation near Emiliano Zapata and Tomás Urbina streets in the Villa neighborhood.
Residents reported hearing gunfire during the operation. Several suspects allegedly attempted to flee, prompting a pursuit that ended with their arrests, according to initial reports.
Authorities had not immediately released details about what prompted the raids or whether anyone was injured.
Unconfirmed reports indicated that officers may have found drugs among the detainees’ belongings. Officials had not publicly confirmed the type or quantity of any suspected narcotics seized.
The six detainees were turned over to prosecutors, who will continue the investigation and determine whether charges will be filed.
Traffic reportedly decreased across parts of Aldama following news of the operation, with many residents appearing to remain indoors as security personnel continued working in the area.
