Injured Texas DPS trooper reunites with K-9 partner nearly month after crash

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper recovering from injuries suffered in a vehicle crash has reunited with his K-9 partner for the first time in nearly a month, the agency said Wednesday.

K-9 Guido wagged his tail as he saw Trooper Vazquez again, according to a post from the DPS West Texas Region, which described the reunion as a reminder of the close bond between a police dog and handler.

DPS did not provide additional details about the crash, Vazquez’s injuries or where the reunion occurred.

The agency said Vazquez remains on the road to recovery and thanked the public, fellow law enforcement agencies and members of the DPS community for their support of the trooper and his family.

“The Vazquez family is deeply grateful for the countless prayers, encouragement, and unwavering support from their DPS family, fellow law enforcement partners, and the community throughout this journey,” the agency said.

A photograph accompanying the update featured Guido in front of the Texas flag with the message, “One mission. One day at a time.”

DPS asked the public to continue keeping Vazquez, Guido and their family in their thoughts and prayers.
