A 48-year-old Iraan man has been arrested and charged with murder after authorities found a woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound inside a residence Tuesday, according to the Pecos County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a 911 call at a home in the 200 block of East Seventh Street on July 14 and discovered Claudia Ortiz, 47, inside the residence with an apparent gunshot wound. Ortiz was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff T.J. Perkins requested assistance from the Texas Rangers, who joined Pecos County investigators in processing the scene and conducting interviews.
Following the investigation, authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Miguel Luna, 48, of Iraan, charging him with murder.
Luna was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Pecos County Jail, where he is awaiting arraignment.
Officials said the investigation remains active and additional information will be released as it becomes available and as allowed by law.
The Pecos County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Texas Rangers and other assisting agencies for their support during the investigation.
A criminal charge is an accusation, and Luna is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
