Free Wes Anderson short film showcase set for Tuesday at Crowley Theater

Fans of filmmaker Wes Anderson will have a rare opportunity to see five of his short films on the big screen Tuesday afternoon at the Crowley Theater.

The free screening, presented by the Chinati Foundation, begins at 4:30 p.m. July 14 at the Crowley Theater, 98 S. Austin St. The program features five Anderson shorts selected and introduced by the acclaimed director.

The lineup includes Bottle Rocket (the original short film), Castello Cavalcanti, Hotel Chevalier, The Swan and The Private Dining Room of the Police Commissioner.

According to the Chinati Foundation, the films trace Anderson’s filmmaking career over more than three decades, beginning with Bottle Rocket, which he produced while a student at the University of Texas at Austin. Anderson has become known internationally for his distinctive visual style and storytelling approach.

The screenings are free and open to the public. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Organizers note that some of the films contain mature themes and advise viewer discretion.

The event offers Marfa residents and visitors a chance to experience a curated selection of Anderson’s work, complete with introductions from the director himself, in one of the city’s historic cultural venues.
