Ojinaga horse racing event to celebrate Fourth of July

A horse racing event celebrating the Fourth of July is scheduled for Saturday at Carril El Desierto in Ojinaga, according to promotional materials released by organizers.

The event, billed as a “Gran Evento de Carreras de Caballos,” will feature horse races and family-friendly activities at the Ojinaga track. Promotional materials specifically advertise the event as a celebration of the Fourth of July, a holiday observed in the neighboring United States.

General admission is listed at 100 pesos, and children will be admitted free of charge.

Organizers say alcoholic beverages, firearms and sharp objects will not be permitted inside the venue.

The event is being promoted with the slogan “Fuego, polvo y velocidad,” or “Fire, dust and speed,” and encourages families to attend.

Ojinaga sits across the Rio Grande from Presidio, Texas, and regularly hosts events that attract residents from both sides of the border. The Fourth of July celebration reflects the close economic and cultural ties between the neighboring communities.
