Reeves County Emergency Services District No. 1 is accepting applications for 12 fire cadet positions as part of its upcoming firefighter training academy, according to a recruitment announcement released this week.
The district is seeking candidates who are already certified as emergency medical technicians at the time of application. Applicants must also possess a high school diploma or GED, a valid Texas driver’s license and successfully complete a written exam, physical ability test, panel interview, background check and medical evaluation.
According to the announcement, the application period closes Aug. 14. Candidates selected to continue in the process will participate in a written exam and recruit physical ability test on Aug. 28, followed by panel interviews scheduled for Sept. 14-15.
The fire academy is scheduled to begin Oct. 5.
Fire cadets will earn a starting salary of $54,000 annually during training. Upon certification, firefighters will receive a starting salary of $72,000 per year, according to the district.
District officials said the program is designed to provide hands-on training and career development opportunities for individuals pursuing a career in the fire service.
Applications are available through the district’s website. Reeves County ESD No. 1 serves communities throughout Reeves County and provides fire and emergency medical response services in the region.
