Lost Foster Puppy Prompts Search Effort in Marfa

A foster puppy that escaped Tuesday morning in Marfa is the subject of a community search effort, with local officials and animal rescue volunteers asking residents to keep an eye out for the small dog.

The black Chihuahua mix, nicknamed “Black Eyed Pea,” was last seen around 10 a.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of North Gonzalez Street, according to a flyer shared by the Marfa Police Department and local rescue organizers.

The puppy weighs about 8 pounds and was wearing a collar and OTAT-WTX identification tag when it went missing. Officials said the dog was being fostered through a rescue program.

The Marfa Police Department posted a request for public assistance on social media, asking anyone who spots the puppy to contact the phone numbers listed on the flyer.

Rescue organizers said the dog may be frightened and encouraged residents to report sightings as quickly as possible to improve the chances of a safe recovery.

Anyone with information is asked to call (432) 295-0119 or (432) 295-0140, or email rescue@otatwtx.org.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the puppy had not been located. Community members have shared the flyer online in hopes of bringing the young dog home safely.
