A 40-year-old man from Ojinaga, Mexico, has been arrested on a charge of burglary of a habitation after investigators said surveillance footage showed him inside a Presidio residence without the homeowner’s permission.
The Presidio County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Raul Ramos Zuniga following an investigation into a reported theft of jewelry from a local home. Authorities said the homeowner reviewed security camera footage and identified Zuniga inside a bedroom while the residents were away.
Investigators allege Zuniga had been working as a landscaper at the property and entered the residence during the homeowners’ absence. Sheriff’s officials said evidence gathered during the investigation linked him to the burglary and raised suspicions about his possible involvement in additional thefts reported in the area.
Texas law classifies burglary of a habitation as a second-degree felony, a charge that can carry significant prison time if a defendant is convicted.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies arrested Zuniga at the Presidio Port of Entry on a warrant issued by Justice of the Peace Bishop. Officials also noted that Zuniga had previously been arrested by the Presidio Police Department on a criminal trespass charge.
Authorities did not immediately release additional details about the alleged stolen property or the status of the broader theft investigations.
The case remains under investigation. As with all criminal cases, Zuniga is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
