Wilderness first responder course to be offered in Terlingua this September

Residents, outdoor enthusiasts and backcountry professionals in Far West Texas will have an opportunity to receive emergency medical training this fall when a Wilderness First Responder certification course comes to Terlingua.

Peak Medical Education will host the six-day course Sept. 24–29 at the J.W. “Red” Pattillo Community Center in Terlingua, according to promotional materials released by the organization.

The Wilderness First Responder, or WFR, certification is designed for people who spend extended time outdoors, including hikers, guides, ranch workers, search-and-rescue volunteers and remote travelers. The course includes hands-on skills training and provides a two-year certification upon completion.

The in-person training costs $580, while recertification is available for $430.

Additional courses will also be offered during the training week, including CPR and AED certification Sept. 27 for $60 and an epinephrine certification Sept. 28 for $25.

The course will be instructed by Heather Fullerton, MD, a physician specializing in sports and wilderness medicine.

Registration and additional information are available through Peak Medical Education.
