Cyclists will roll out from Iraan High School early Saturday morning for the second annual Alley Oop Loop Bicycle Rally, a scenic community ride tied to the city’s Alley Oop Day festivities.
The ride begins at 7:45 a.m. June 6 from the Iraan High School parking lot, located at 100 S. Farr St., with organizers offering multiple route options ranging from 28 to 50 miles. Water stations will be available along the course, and volunteers are still being welcomed, according to event organizers.
This year’s route will be an out-and-back ride due to ongoing highway resurfacing work on Highway 349, though riders may still choose to complete the full loop if desired.
Participants can select from a 28-mile route, a 36-mile route or a 50-mile ride, with checkpoints and turnaround points along highways 190, 305 and 306, including a water station near the McMullan Ranch gate.
The shortest option sends riders east on Highway 190 before turning around at the Highway 305 intersection for a 28-mile ride. Cyclists seeking a longer challenge can continue south on Highway 305 and Highway 306 for distances of 36 or 50 miles.
An optional extended route allows experienced riders to continue with caution to Highway 349 and back into Iraan to complete a loop.
Awards will be presented for top finishers in each distance category. Prize money ranges from $25 to $200 depending on race length and placement.
Organizers are encouraging participants to stay for Alley Oop Day festivities at the park following the ride.
