A historic industrial property on San Antonio Street in Marfa is being transformed into a new creative retreat, converting what was once a roller rink and tire shop into accommodations and event space inspired by the high desert.
Known as Marfa Outpost, the project is taking shape inside the former JJ Tire Co. building on San Antonio Street, where developers say visitors will be able to “slow down, gather, and reset” in a setting designed to blend Marfa’s industrial past with its artistic identity.
“In the heart of Marfa, what was once a roller rink and tire shop is now imagined as a creative retreat,” the project said in a social media post. “The design draws from the building’s grit and the desert’s quiet pull — part artist’s hideout, part communal space.”
The development describes itself as “dusty-posh” accommodations and events in a converted roller rink and tire shop, with an anticipated opening in early 2027. Construction images shared online show exposed framing and expansive interior spaces, while renderings preview a minimalist desert aesthetic beneath Marfa’s star-filled skies.
Located along San Antonio Street, the project occupies a large warehouse-style structure long recognized locally as JJ Tire Co., a property that once served automotive and community functions, including as a roller rink.
Marfa Outpost says the space will emphasize simple materials and communal gathering areas that reflect the spirit of the surrounding desert, with inquiries and reservations expected ahead of its planned opening.
