Gage Resort to host public tasting for Sanderson-made sotol at June poolside event

The Gage Resort & Spa will host the first public tasting of Tall Texan Distilling’s sotol during a poolside event scheduled for June 13, according to an announcement shared by the resort.

The event, called “Tall Texan Pour at Gage Resort,” is set for 5 to 7 p.m. at the Marathon resort and will feature cocktails made with the Sanderson-based distillery’s sotol, along with small bites, music and pool access for guests 21 and older. Entry is listed at $20.

In a social media post, the resort said Tall Texan Distilling will soon become a permanent Highway 90 neighbor, noting the distillery is based in Sanderson. The Gage described itself as “ecstatic” to be part of the company’s journey and said the June gathering will mark the first opportunity for the public to sample the spirit.

Sotol, a distilled spirit made from the desert spoon plant native to the Chihuahuan Desert, has long roots in the borderlands region and has seen growing interest among craft distillers in Far West Texas.

The event comes as Sanderson-based Tall Texan Distilling expands its presence in the region, highlighting another locally rooted business venture tied to the landscapes and traditions of West Texas.
