Volunteers with the Fort Stockton Chamber of Commerce spent part of the week honoring local veterans by placing United States flags at gravesites ahead of Memorial Day.
In a social media post, the chamber said volunteers and chamber members came together to ensure local service members are remembered and honored during the holiday weekend. Photos shared by the organization show volunteers placing flags throughout a local cemetery in Fort Stockton.
“Memorial Day is a time for deep reflection, gratitude, and remembrance,” the chamber wrote. “We are proud to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.”
The annual observance recognizes military personnel who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Communities across Texas and the nation mark Memorial Day with ceremonies, volunteer efforts and visits to cemeteries to honor fallen service members.
The Fort Stockton Chamber thanked volunteers who participated in the effort, saying their work helps preserve the memory and legacy of local veterans in the community.
“Thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers and Chamber members who helped us ensure these heroes are remembered and honored today,” the organization said.
