Alpine Animal Services Names Roy as Pet of the Week, Offers Reduced Adoption Fee

Alpine Animal Services has named Roy its Pet of the Week, offering prospective adopters a chance to bring home the gentle senior dog for half the normal adoption fee through the end of the day Sunday, May 24.

Roy can be adopted for $50 during the special promotion, according to shelter staff. The adoption fee includes neutering, a microchip, a heartworm test and all vaccinations.

Roy arrived at the shelter March 27 after being found as a stray. Staff said he was covered in ticks and showed signs of hip problems when he first came in. After receiving immediate treatment for ticks, Roy was taken to a veterinarian, where he was later placed on pain medication for his hips, had his teeth cleaned and was neutered.

Shelter staff describe Roy as an “old gentle giant” who has done well in play groups with other dogs and enjoys spending time outdoors with human companionship. While not especially active, Roy likes lounging in the yard and often looks for a person to sit beside him.

Roy also has earned praise for his calm demeanor on walks and affectionate personality.

“Our staff says that Roy is a trusting sweetheart who just wants to give kisses and enjoy a warm afternoon with good company,” the shelter said in a statement.

Those interested in meeting Roy can visit Alpine Animal Services Shelter at 2900 Old Marathon Highway in Alpine.
