Marfa Robbery Suspect Arrested in New Mexico, Extradition Pending

A man accused in a robbery case tied to Marfa has been arrested in New Mexico and will be extradited back to Presidio County to face charges, according to the Marfa Police Department.

Police identified the suspect as Marcus Thibodeau, who authorities said was taken into custody in New Mexico and is facing a charge of robbery, a second-degree felony under Texas law.

According to the department, Thibodeau will be extradited to Marfa, where he is expected to be magistrated.

Marfa police credited multiple agencies for assisting in locating and apprehending the suspect, including the Big Bend Sector Targeting Unit, Big Bend Sector Intelligence Unit, Presidio County Sheriff’s Department, Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Department, New Mexico State Police and specialized units within the El Paso Police Department. Authorities said the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department in New Mexico made the arrest.

Marfa Police Chief Gilberto Carrillo thanked partner agencies for their cooperation, saying the department remains focused on public safety for residents and visitors.

Court records outlining the allegations against the suspect were not immediately available. Under the U.S. legal system, criminal charges are accusations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
