Fort Davis ISD explores consolidating schools into single K-12 campus

Fort Davis Independent School District leaders are considering a proposal that could move all district students into a single K-12 campus as administrators respond to enrollment trends, building usage and financial concerns, according to reporting by NewsWest 9.

Superintendent Jason Crow told the television station that district officials have been reviewing enrollment data, facility capacity and correspondence from the Texas Education Agency related to finances and school safety.

“Analysis of enrollment trends, extremely low building capacities, and TEA correspondence in the areas of district finances and safety and security has led to these conclusions,” Crow said in a statement reported by NewsWest 9.

Under the concept being explored, the district would consolidate students from kindergarten through 12th grade onto one campus. Other district facilities, including the Dirks-Anderson Elementary campus, could be repurposed rather than permanently closed.

Crow told NewsWest 9 that the district remains focused on providing “the best possible educational experience for all of its students in a fiscally responsible and safe learning environment.”

The district plans to hold a public information session on the proposal May 19 at 5:30 p.m. in the Fort Davis High School auditorium. Community members will have an opportunity to hear more details about the potential changes and ask questions of district leadership.

NewsWest 9 reported that district leaders are still in the exploratory stage and no final decisions have been announced.
