Marfa Junior High students recently participated in an educational field trip to Mimms Ranch focused on conservation, sustainability and environmental stewardship.
According to Marfa Independent School District, the trip was made possible through the efforts of Phil Boyd and hosted by the Dixon Water Foundation.
Students took part in hands-on demonstrations, interactive presentations and outdoor learning activities led by professionals from the Borderlands Research Institute, Dixon Water Foundation and Mimms Ranch personnel.
Topics covered during the field trip included water conservation, native plants and wildlife, overgrazing and land management, watershed stewardship, conservation science and ranch sustainability.
School officials said the experience helped connect classroom learning with the land, wildlife and natural resources of the Big Bend region while giving students practical exposure to environmental science and ranch management concepts.
The district thanked organizers and presenters for providing students with what it described as an outstanding real-world learning opportunity.
