Thursday night chess gathering launches at The Ritchey in Alpine

Chess players of all skill levels are invited to gather for a weekly open chess night at The Ritchey beginning Thursdays at 8 p.m.

According to organizers, the event will be held upstairs at the historic Alpine venue and is designed to welcome everyone from serious competitors to casual players and spectators.

Promotional materials for the event encourage attendees to “come play,” “come learn” and “come drink a beer and argue about whether that was a blunder.”

Players are encouraged to bring chess boards if they own one, though organizers emphasized that people without boards are still welcome to attend.

The Ritchey, located inside the restored historic Hotel Ritchey building in downtown Alpine, is known for its bar, wine saloon and beer garden atmosphere, along with live music and community events.
