U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Alpine Station seized more than 44 pounds of marijuana during a recent checkpoint inspection operation in the Big Bend Sector, according to the agency.
Border Patrol officials said agents stopped a vehicle for inspection when a K-9 unit alerted to two tires located in the trunk. Agents discovered marijuana concealed inside the tires.
The seized marijuana weighed more than 44 pounds and had an estimated street value exceeding $35,000, according to the agency.
Photos released by U.S. Border Patrol showed packages of marijuana hidden within the tires removed from the vehicle.
