Alpine officials say water system issue more complex than first believed

City officials in Alpine said Saturday that problems affecting the municipal water system may be more complex than initially believed, as staff and technical experts continue evaluating conditions tied to one of the city’s water wells.

In an update released May 2, the city said early findings pointed to a mechanical issue, but further assessment has suggested a broader or more complicated problem. Officials said they are working with subject matter experts to fully diagnose the issue and determine the most effective course of action.

The update follows an emergency meeting held May 1, after which city staff began ongoing evaluations of the system. While the review continues, the city said it is taking proactive steps to maintain stability and ensure continued water service.

Officials said they are closely monitoring system performance, including water pressure and overall supply capacity, and emphasized that protecting public health and safety remains a priority.

The Alpine City Council is expected to receive a more detailed briefing during its regular meeting scheduled for May 5. The discussion is expected to include updated findings, operational considerations and potential next steps.

City officials urged residents to stay informed through official communications and said that existing water conservation measures remain in effect.
