The U.S. Border Patrol’s Big Bend Sector is congratulating several newly trained canine handlers and instructors following a recent graduation ceremony held at the agency’s Canine Academy.
According to a social media post from U.S. Border Patrol, the graduating class included two new canine instructors, a returning detection handler and four new detection handlers who are now assigned to the Big Bend Sector.
Images shared with the post show uniformed agents holding certificates during the ceremony, along with an official speaking at a podium in front of Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection flags. The event itself appears to have taken place at a training facility rather than within the Big Bend Sector.
Border Patrol K-9 teams play a key role in operations, assisting in the detection of narcotics, explosives and concealed individuals. Handlers complete specialized training at the Canine Academy before being deployed to their assigned sectors.
Sector officials congratulated the graduates in the post, welcoming the new handlers and instructors to the region’s canine program.
