Spring choral concert set for Sunday in Fort Davis

A regional group of singers is set to perform a spring choral concert this weekend at the Jeff Davis County Community Center, with Fort Davis serving as one of two host communities.

The program will feature a combined ensemble made up of the Big Bend Community Chorale, the Sul Ross State University Chorus and the SRSU Chamber Singers. The performance in Fort Davis is scheduled for Sunday, May 3, at 3 p.m. at the community center on Cemetery Road.

The concert will be led by Andrew D. Alegría, with Sul Ross student Luis Ramirez assisting as a student conductor. Piano accompaniment will be provided by Beth Kerzee and Lana Potts.

Organizers say the event reflects ongoing collaboration between the university’s music program and surrounding communities, bringing a large choral presentation to local audiences without requiring travel outside the county.

An additional performance of the same program is planned for Friday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the Alpine ISD Auditorium, offering an option for audiences in Alpine. The Fort Davis concert provides a closer opportunity for residents in Jeff Davis County and highlights the community center’s role as a venue for regional cultural events.
