Davis Mountains State Park seeks summer park hosts in West Texas

Davis Mountains State Park is recruiting park hosts for the summer season, offering visitors a chance to live and work in one of the coolest and highest-elevation regions in Texas.

According to a recent announcement from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the volunteer positions include minimum work commitments of about 24 hours per week for individuals and 32 hours per week for couples. Hosts typically follow a three-days-on, four-days-off schedule.

The park, located at roughly 5,000 feet elevation, promotes cooler mountain temperatures compared to much of the state, along with scenic views and access to nearby destinations including Big Bend National Park, Guadalupe Mountains National Park and Carlsbad Caverns National Park, all within a few hours’ drive.

Perks for park hosts include a full hook-up RV site, access to commercial washers and dryers, and use of park amenities such as a swimming pool. The role does not require bathroom cleaning duties, according to the posting.

Officials say the program is aimed at people who enjoy working with visitors while spending extended time in a natural setting.

Applications are open through the Texas Parks and Wildlife volunteer portal, and officials note that positions tend to fill quickly.
